Words from the Chair...
Staff Recognition Week is fast approaching and SAC members are working hard to pull everything together. Please remember to sign up for each event you plan to attend so we have accurate guest counts. Strangely, everything seems to be going along quite smoothly. This must be due to the fact that I have delegated all the tasks out to others more capable than I.

For those of you who have put off your taxes until the very last minute, remember that your big refund can always be donated to your favorite charity, or used as a great raffle prize at the Staff Recognition Week Picnic! If you owe money to Uncle Sam then I'm afraid Staff Council can't help you much, but we will be giving out a free lunch at the awards ceremony and picnic.

Andrew McAllister
Chair, UM-System Staff Advisory Council

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream." -Mark Twain

"Feel the fear and do it anyway." -Susan Jeffers

"Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail." -Ralph Waldo Emerson

"You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face." -Eleaner Roosevelt

"Regret for the things we did can be tempered by time; it is regret for the things we did not do that is inconsolable." -Syndey Harris

Why the emphasis on overcoming fear? It's that time of year to think about remodeling which can evoke fear in the best of handymen when the "honey-do" list gets long. You might contemplate some of these quotes before you tackle those big projects! In our house it is replacing doors and windows. Not rocket science, but the need to learn a few new skills!

Editor's Corner!
Staff Advisory Council meetings are open to all UM System Staff. Meeting times are 9:00am-11:00am the second Wednesday of the month. The location for this year is the Locust Street Building in one of their conference rooms. If you are interested in attending just contact one of the members and we can let you know which room we will be in (that does vary). We are busily working on the Staff Recognition Week activities, and would welcome any suggestions that you may have for us to make it a better event for you, so please don't hesitate to let one of your council members know what your thoughts are.
