Words from the Chair...
We hope you enjoyed this year's Staff Recognition Week activities. There were a few complaints about the difficulty of the Trivial Pursuit questions. I personally thought they were great. It made me think back to my days in freshman chemistry when the class high score on the midterm exam was a 38. If you disagree with me, or just want to participate in the glory of Staff Advisory Council, then it's time for you to step up! Nominations for the upcoming staff council elections are now being accepted and it is not bad form to nominate yourself.
Andrew McAllister
Chair, UM-System Staff Advisory Council

SAC Nominations...
It's that time of year to look at nominating new members for SAC for the upcoming year. Nominations are accepted from now until Friday July 30, 2004. After receiving the nominations, the Election Committee will provide a ballot of names representing the seats to be filled. The resulting ballot will be mailed to UM System staff by August 27, 2004. When all ballots are in, SAC will notify the winners and their supervisors, and also announce them to you the staff they are representing. The first meeting new council members will attend will be the October meeting when we will say good-bye to out-going members.

This is a wonderful time to get on the council if you would like a voice in how things are handled for next year's Recognition Week activities! You can also nominate someone else for the council but we ask that you get their consent before nominating them since SAC does require a monthly time commitment. It's a great time to offer your individual skills to the council, too! We will be looking for someone to maintain the web pages and also for a new Editor for the Newsletter! The nomination form can be found in the email that brought you the link for this Newsletter. If you need to have it resent to you, please send me a note .

If you would like to read the SAC Bylaws before committing to run, they can be found at: http://www.umsystem.edu/sac/members/UMSACBylaws.pdf

Staff Recognition Week...
I hope that everyone had fun at the activities you chose to attend. The winning Trivial Pursuit teams can be found on the website at: http://www.umsystem.edu/sac/srw/resultsTriv2004.html

Congratulations to our Award winners for this year:

And finally the Staff and Retiree Picnic turned out beautifully!! The weather was perfect and altho we did run out of drinks (that won't happen again!) we had plenty of food. And in case you wondered where the extra food went, we always take left overs (mostly salads and beans) to a local food kitchen. Richard said the patrons of "Loaves and Fishes" began eating before he had all the food unloaded! We are delighted to be able to share with the community in this way, and they are always very appreciative! Rhonda Turner did a wonderful job of securing prizes for the event from the following businesses:

Blue Stem Parking and Transportation Missouri Research Park
Stoney Creek Inn Forum 8 Theater Heavenly Ham
Chesapeake Bagel Company Scrapbook Store University Bookstore
Holiday Inn Village Wine and Cheese PartyLite-Elizabeth Rawlings
Lodge of the Four Seasons Outback Circuit City

Government Relations

Boone County National Bank Concert Series
A. L. Gustin Golf Course General Stores also provided Soda for Trivial Pursuit and the Picnic

We hope to have this years' photos on the web site soon!!

Staff Awareness...Show-Me Shape Up
The Show-Me Shape Up campaign will end on June 26, 2004. If you want to see how the teams are doing, go to: http://www.smsg.org/showmeshapeup/index.asp

If you were not able to participate and want to get involved now, "don’t forget about the maintenance program beginning July 5th through September 30th. The cost is $5 per person (you’ll receive a t-shirt to work out in). We welcome those teams who are continuing during the summer. Our main focus is on maintaining your weight loss and exercise habits. New tips will be provided each week as they are now." For all the particulars, contact Jean Hough at 884-4998 or e-mail to houghj@missouri.edu.

Editor's Corner!
Staff Advisory Council meetings are open to all UM System Staff. Meeting times are 9:00am-11:00am the second Wednesday of the month. The location for this year is the Locust Street Building in one of their conference rooms. If you are interested in attending just contact one of the members and we can let you know which room we will be in (that does vary). We are busily working on the Elections for New Council Members! If you would like to see things done differently or just wonder how the process works, run for the council and join us!!
