Spring has arrived and Staff Recognition Week is just around the corner. May 16, 2005 through May 20, 2005 is SRW. Please sign up for all SRW activities via the UM-SAC web site - http://www.umsystem.edu/sac/. Please join in on all the free activities by signing up before the deadlines posted on the web site. SRW is for the UM Employee’s and hopefully you will be able to attend most of the activities. The UM-SAC is selling shirts with the University Seal on them. Please contact a UM-SAC member if you have not seen the sample shirts. You can order the shirts via the UM-SAC web site.

GET INVOLVED

  • Sustainable Farms and Communities, Inc needs volunteers for various levels of time commitment each Saturday morning from March through November to help run the Information Cafe at the Columbia Farmers' Market. This is a easy and fun way to support local farmers and quality fresh food. The Information Cafe is located in the front of the Columbia Farmers' Market at the corner of Ash and Clinkscales behind the ARC. For more information, contact Victoria Day at 819-1325.

Join in the fun at the Columbia Earth Day Celebration!

Dear Friend,

Hello. We would like to invite you to participate in Columbia’s 2005 Earth Day Festival. This event is a well-established Columbia tradition. Each year we draw many thousands of people to enjoy the music, listen to the speakers, participate in the activities, visit booths at the street fair, learn more about environmental concerns and honor the Earth.

The Festival will be held Sunday April 24 in MU’s Peace Park with booths being set up on adjacent streets. In the event of bad weather we will move the Festival to Sunday, May 1.

Earth Day is put on primarily to promote greater environmental awareness, and to allow our community a chance to focus upon the ways we can live in a more eco-friendly, sustainable fashion. The Earth Day Festival features music, art, educational displays, and other activities that bring home the fact that we share this Earth with all the other people and life forms on the planet.

The Earth Day Festival is also a Community Volunteer Fair, coordinated in conjunction with the Voluntary Action Center. We strongly encourage all community groups in search of volunteers to participate, regardless of whether they work directly on environmental issues.

Sincerely,
Mark Haim
