Words from the Chair

Greetings to all!

Your UM Staff Advisory Council is busy finalizing plans for the annual 2008 Staff Appreciation Week activities.  With the advent of the Healthy for Life: T.E. Atkins UM Wellness Program and Wellness Ambassadors available for all buildings, we opted to have the theme of “Embrace Life – Live Healthy” this year.  We have added a day of learning how to relieve stress on Wednesday and at the picnic, we will have staff from Healthy for Life answer questions, hand out information on “staying healthy” whether through sports activity, walking programs, or making the commitment to eat healthier.  In addition, we are coordinating with Central Missouri Food Bank to collect canned food items on Monday at the Thank You Breakfast and Friday at the Picnic.  For those of you donating a canned food item, you will be eligible to win a prize if your ticket number is the winning number.

Mark these dates on your calendars now:

Monday, May 12
(Thank You Breakfast at U Hall Snack Bar 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.),
Tuesday, May 13 (Trivia Day at Forum Boulevard Christian Church 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.),
Wednesday, May 14 (“Embrace Life - Live Healthy”  sessions at University Hall (8:00 a.m. yoga/relaxation techniques ~~12:00 p.m. Stretching Exercises for a less stressed workday),
Thursday, May 15
(Staff Recognition Awards Luncheon at the Donald W. Reynolds Alumni Center),
Friday, May 16

All activities will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. unless otherwise noted.

On-line registration is posted on the UM SAC website, http://sac.umsystem.edu/signup.shtml.  Please complete the on-line registration form/forms as soon as possible so that we have accurate registration numbers for all events.
Thank you again to all that took the time to nominate a fellow staff member for one of the staff awards this year.  Your nominations provide clear evidence that UM System staff carry out the mission of the University in an exemplary manner every day.
Our next scheduled SAC meeting is Friday, April 11, 2008 at 8:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. in 225 Conference Room, University Hall.  As always, we welcome your comments, questions, and suggestions.  We are here for YOU!

Internet Safety Night is a nationwide event that brings information and resources to students, parents and members of the community to help us all stay safer online. We talk about online predators, cyber-bullying, identity theft and other Internet-related issues. The goal is for communities to pull together local experts and resources — students, parents, teachers, law enforcement and community members — to begin a discussion about the importance of Internet safety.
