Staff Awareness Eating Disorders are uncontrollable disturbances in eating behavior and thoughts, motivated by a fear of weight gain and other personal hurts and fears. They are psychological disorders that involve insufficient or excessive food intake. Studies have shown up to 8% of American women suffer from anorexia or bulimia (NIMH, 2001). Forty-million people are believed to deal with compulsive overeating. The number of men suffering from eating disorders is on the rise. This website is designed to provide information for students at the University of Missouri on resources for dealing with or helping a friend who is dealing with an eating disorder.
