UM Staff Advisory Council Members 2008-2009

Words from the Chair

Greetings!

We are happy to announce that we will be able to have the Staff picnic this year. We had enough money left over to cover this event and so we are grateful to President Forsee for allowing us to proceed with this Staff recognition activity as well as the Staff awards. We hope to offer the Trivia lunch at some point during the year as well. We would appreciate any input or ideas for food, drinks and activities that you may have and think might go over well at the picnic. Please also take the time to nominate a staff member for one of the staff awards.

  • Staff Award nominations are due by Monday March 9, 2009.
  • Staff Picnic is scheduled for Thursday May 14, 2009
  • I urge each of you to e:mail or call me with genuine concerns you may have and ideas on how the UM Staff Advisory Council can better serve system employees. We can only be as good as each of you help us become.

    Warm regards,
    Toni Monsen

    New Resources webpage

The UM System Staff Advisory Council has a new webpage to offer up to staff. We are making every effort to try and help the staff anyway we can find to do so. The new webpage currently has several things to offer.

  • Discounts and Special offers
  • Nomination forms for Staff awards
  • Upcoming events
  • The UM System Staff Advisory Council decided to find new ways to assist staff and show appreciation for all they do. Since the economic situation will not allow us to hold the usual Staff Recognition activities as we have in past years we started searching out new ways to show the staff appreciation. We decided to start to ask locally owned Restaurants if they could choose a day of the week and offer up any discounts to UM Staff. The new restaurant downtown Bleu graciously offered not just one day but every Monday in March to offer all University Employees a 20% discount with an approved flyer that you can download from the resource page. If you have not tried the food there yet now is a great opportunity for you to do so at a reduced price. The offer is valid all day on Mondays so if you can't get there for lunch then why not go for dinner or happy hour.

The nomination form for the 2009 Staff awards is also available there. Please nominate someone for the staff awards who you think deserves it. We have 3 awards this year to offer up. One Administrative/Professional (Exempt),One Service/Support (Non-Exempt) and One Administrator award. The Exempt and Non-Exempt winners will each receive a $1,000 plus a plaque. The Administrator Award is strictly prestige and no money will be given for it. Winners from the prior three years are not eligible to win and semifinalist winners from the past two years are not eligible to win. Here are the previous 3 years winners and semifinalist who are NOT eligible: 2008 Doug Kuschel – President’s Award, Karla Dowd – Finalist – Administrative/Professional (exempt), Joe Sanning – Administrator’s Award, Krista Young – Finalist – Service/Support (non-exempt), Theresa Spaedy – Semi-Finalist – Administrative/Professional (exempt), Jeanne Kelly – Semi-Finalist – Service/Support (non-exempt); 2007 Brian McNamee – President’s Award, David Moore & David Russell – Administrator’s Award, Joetta Gross – Finalist – Administrative/Professional (exempt), Donna Barnes – Finalist – Service/Support (non-exempt), Kennetha Jackson – Semi-Finalist – Administrative/Professional (exempt), Nancy Benedict – Semi-Finalist – Service/Support (non-exempt); 2006 Ken England – President’s Award, Dennis Cesari – Administrator’s Award, Memoree Bradley – Finalist – Administrative/Professional (exempt), Tracy Duncan – Finalist – Service/Support (non-exempt),David Baker – Semi-Finalist – Administrative/Professional (exempt), Beth Perrin Semi-Finalist – Service/Support (non-exempt).

    Fact or Fiction

The University of Missouri Staff Advisory Council will be offering a new webpage on their website where staff can ask a question and the Council will get the answer and post it along with the question. Everyone has probably heard of or seen the "SNOPES" or "Truth or Fiction" websites where you can go and see if that wild email story you just received is true or not. Well we would like to offer the same type of thing to help put any false rumors about jobs, salaries, or other items to rest before they get out of hand. Please email your questions to the Council and we will get you an answer and post both to the new webpage so everyone who might have the same question can get a straight and truthful answer. If you wish for us to post your name and information please let us know, otherwise you will remain anonymous. Please send us your questions so that we can get started publishing them on the new webpage. Please click here to send us your Questions?

    Words From the Editor

Greetings from your SAC Newsletter editor. A lot of developments have occurred since the last newsletter and we are making every effort to cover as much as we can. Please take the time to check out our new webpages and give me any feedback you may have. I know I'm excited about the BLEU restaurant offering all of us 20% off the total bill on Mondays in March. Now if you have never eaten there the food is fantastic and presentation is impeccable. Don't expect portions though to be over the top and please ask the waiters any questions you may have about portion size, etc because they are well trained. It is a very generous offer and I hope one that we will all support successfully so we can hopefully get more offers in the future from other restaurants as well. If you personally know any locally owned business that you think may be interested in offering UM Staff a discount please let any of us know so we can pursue that.

We are committed to finding ways to help and aid the staff in any way we can so PLEASE help us to help you.

    Thanks,

    Joan Goodwin
