UM Staff Advisory Council Members 2008-2009

Words from the Chair

Greetings!

Thanks to everyone who attended the Staff Recognition Awards Ceremony & Picnic. We had an amazing turn out and were thankful the weather came through for us. A special thank you to everyone who took the time to respond to the Staff Recognition Event survey. Your input will be valuable to next year’s Council when they begin preparation for next year’s events. The survey results and pictures are posted on the UMSAC website for everyone’s review.

Plans for a trivia event in September are underway!! Stay tuned for details as they become available. You’ll see from the survey results this is a very popular event which was truly missed as part of the Staff Recognition activities

We will be taking nominations for new members for the Council within the next few weeks. Please consider submitting your name for nomination….or talk to a colleague you think would make a good addition to the Council. We are looking for others who are willing to be involved and have new ideas to add. If you have questions please feel free to contact me or any of the Council members for assistance.

As always, your Council wants to hear from you. Let us know how we can best represent you!.

Warm regards,
Toni Monsen

Staff Awards and Picnic

2009 Award winners Shelly Helms, Laura Roth, Bill Cooper, Kevin Gilmore, President Gary Forsee

Thanks to all who participated

The Staff Awards and Picnic were combined this year to help save money. The weather was terrific but it would have been nice if we didn't have so much rain that week as the Columbia Parks and Recreation staff couldn't mow the grass before hand because the ground was still so wet. Staff still managed to play games and have a good time.

We would like to thank everyone who helped out in making the staff picnic/awards day a success. Thanks to President Gary Forsee for his aid in making the day possible as well as allowing it to be a "jean" day. Thanks to Betsy Rodriguez for all her help with preparations for the day. Betsy is a breathe of fresh air as she has been more like an additional council member to us this year because she makes an effort to attend each and every meeting we have and has been able to attend most of them. Most of you probably don't realize how deep the efforts of both President Forsee, Betsy Rodriguez and the rest of the Vice Presidents/Administrative staff have made this past year to help make our lives richer. They are truly listening to us and doing everything they can to preserve today and build us a better future tomorrow. The University System Staff is a great team and they know the value of what each and every person contributes to that. This years council has been a first hand witness to that and we have seen a drastic increase compared to past years.

We would also like to thank Mary Ann Ihler for the wonderful picture taking this year in Willie Jones absence. Thanks to Barb Harris for all her help in creating a great electronic survey this year. Thanks to her efforts we were able to get 152 people to respond to the survey with 86 people leaving comments. This is by far the largest feedback the council has gotten and will aid next years council to making it an even greater event then this years. Thanks to everyone who helped and participated.

    Words From the Editor

Greetings from your SAC Newsletter editor.

Please consider running for next years council. I for one will be leaving and if you have any HTML skills they will be deeply in need of someone to take care of the website and newsletter for the next year. Please nominate someone even if they don't have HTML skills as we need good people with great ideas to share. You get to work with great people too.

Thanks to Christine Mayer for loaning me Brennan Hobart to get the photos for the picnic into a pdf file format for easy viewing for everyone. It was very much appreciated as it saved me a ton of time and work
