UM Staff Advisory Council Members 2008-2009

Words from the Chair

Greetings!
During my term as Chair for the UM Staff Advisory Council I plan to work with each of the council members to come up with ways we can reach more UM staff and let all of you know that we are here to represent you. Our Governing Guidelines state the council was formed to advise the President on matters of mutual interest and to serve as an information and liaison medium for employees and administrative officers. We are here to listen to your concerns and your ideas and will share them with the appropriate staff. While we do organize and promote Staff Recognition Week activities we are here all year long and want to serve each of you to the best of our abilities. As President Forsee just wrote to each of us we should use campus resources available to assist us. Don’t forget that your UM Staff Advisory Council is one of these resources! In addition to our council’s monthly meetings both myself and Vice Chair Nathan Billings have the opportunity to attend the Intercampus Staff Advisory Council which is comprised of two representatives from each campus’ staff advisory council. Many of the concerns that each of us in the system have are shared by those on each of the campuses as well. At present, the items that have been designated as the five most important items for us to focus on are:

1. Concerns over salaries & wages.

2. Eighty five & out (or some similar retirement option)

3. Concerns over career path opportunities

4. Exploration of a shared sick leave donation system

5. Morale within individual campuses and system as a whole

I urge each of you to e:mail or call me with genuine concerns you may have and ideas on how the UM Staff Advisory Council can better serve system employees. We can only be as good as each of you help us become.

Warm regards,
Toni Monsen
