UM Staff Advisory Council was formed to provide two-way communication between staff and the President on pertinent issues. If you have comments or questions about any subject related to UM System staff, please contact one of your Council members. They are there for you!
The fall semester has officially started and the students are back in full force. The enrollment has increased again this year and things seem to be running great! Many of you will be working directly with the students and I truly appreciate the dedication you put forth during this very busy time and your continued dedication throughout the year. I know the students are in good hands and receiving the very best service from our staff members.
This is my 34th year at the University of Missouri and I love how things have improved for the students and our employees.
I would like to personally thank everyone for all that you do for the University of Missouri.
Richard Begemann - UM SAC Chairperson
The United Way Day of Caring will be here before you know it! On Friday September 30, a hard-working group of University of Missouri volunteers will meet at the Central Missouri Food Bank. If you've volunteered at the Food Bank in the past, you know what a good time we've had! And if you haven't volunteered at the Food Bank before, why not give it a try this year?
We work in shifts, a morning shift and an afternoon shift. Your half day of volunteering is considered part of your work assignment so you don't have to take vacation time! So sign-up now!
Those of you who have already signed up, we give you a big THANK YOU. Those of you who are contemplating it, call Memoree (882-3611) or Brian (882-2316) and they can fill you in on what we have done in the past and how much fun it really is!
Send an e-mail to Memoree Bradley ( bradleyme@umsystem.edu ) and indicate your shift preference. Bag lunches are served (for both shifts) and everyone gets a free t-shirt! Thanks for helping fight hunger right here in mid-Missouri.
Memoree Bradley, Brian McNamee
Congratulations to the following UM-System Staff members who have attained these milestones of service!
The Guest Services department at University Hospital and Children’s Hospital has a laptop lending service for long-term hospital patients. With the use of a laptop, patients are able to maintain their office work or schoolwork during prolonged stays in the hospital. The department currently has one laptop computer to lend and is seeking more. Donated laptops do not have to be in working condition, and all donated laptops will have their hard drives wiped clean before being lent to patients.
"If your office is upgrading to a new laptop and had plans to surplus the old laptop, please give Guest Services at University Hospital and Children's Hospital a call before sending to campus surplus," said Pete Goodman, a patient assistance coordinator.
For more information or to donate a laptop computer, please call Goodman at (573) 882-1053 or e-mail goodmanp@health.missouri.edu
Tanya Haeussler - Executive Assistant in Management Services
Although I've been an employee of the University of Missouri for 13 years, this past year has been my first at University Hall. Before coming to Management Services, I was part of MU's Environmental Health & Safety Department, involved mostly in helping campus maintain EPA, DNR, and DOT regulations pertaining to both chemical and radioactive materials. At MU, I also sorted books in the bookstore, pollinated corn, analyzed diabetic blood, and researched grey tree frogs (my degree from Stephens College is in biology with a minor in chemistry). My move from the world of science came after a fellow director on the Board of the Columbia Montessori School suggested I would be a great match with a position opening up – and here I am! I have enjoyed my work here this past year, involved with the five departments associated with Management Services, working with the Board of Curators office as well as being on various committees. It is an honor to be a representative on the UM Staff Advisory Council. I look forward to meeting people, learning more about the intricacies of the University, and working toward making UM a better place.
Mary Ann Ihler - Executive Assistant - Planning and Budget
I will celebrate 4 years with University of Missouri System on September 10, 2005. I enjoy a variety of responsibilities in my current job and like the challenge of other responsibilities that I have assumed. In addition to my daily work in Planning and Budget, I am the webmaster for a website; CACUBO http://www.cacubo.org ; I assist in preparing a quarterly CACUBO (Central Association of College and University Business Officers) newsletter; and I assist with the United Way Campaigns. Prior to working at the University of Missouri, I worked in the Columbia Public School system specifically in the Media Center & Computer Labs at Rock Bridge High School. I earned my Bachelor of Science Education degree at the University of Missouri in 1973 and returned to the University of Missouri to do graduate work on a Library of Science degree in 2000-2001. I had reached a magic number in age (I'll let us guess what age that was) where I knew that if was going to make a job change - 2001 would be a great time to do so. I thoroughly enjoy my work in P & B, the people that I work with each day at system, and love being challenged with new tasks, duties, and responsibilities. I consider it an honor to be a part of the Staff Advisory Council and welcome suggestions, ideas, and thoughts, on how to improve our work environment, our work time together, and our goals for individual success as well as UM System team success. I will gladly present issues and/or concerns you have to the council. Please feel free to contact me at any time.
Rebecca Wall - Product Support Representative
I am a fairly new employee to MOREnet, but not to the University. I worked for Extension Technology and Computer Services (ETCS), nearly five years ago. I spent over two years with ETCS as Office Support Staff and have recently returned to the University to work for MOREnet.
I look forward to working as a part of UM SAC and learning more about the University. I am fortunate to be working with a wonderful group of people, that I am sure will provide a lot of good suggestions for UM SAC.
UM-SAC will do our best to keep all UM employee's informed on the Budget, Benefits and Retirement decisions. If you have any questions or concerns, please call or email any of the UM-SAC members.
